Movie Discussion

We did the activity on page 82 in the book.  Students are to pick a movie and write a half page on how the character changes over the course of the movie.  They then need to discuss how the Holy Spirit helped guide their transformation.

We continued practicing the Magnificat.  8 students recited the prayer in front of the class correctly today, even though it is not due till Monday.  Students are strongly suggested to try and recite the prayer in class tomorrow.

We assigned roles for Friday's mass, as we are in charge this week.  We then began to work on memorizing The Magnificat prayer, as it is required in 7th grade.  Students were "encouraged" to have the first 3 lines memorized by tomorrow.

Questions for Monsignor Heinz

After an extended layoff from Religion class due to Iowa testing, we are back.  We started today by discussing any questions we have about what we have learned so far in class and any questions we have in general about the Catholic faith.  Each student came up with their own question and presented it to the class.  We then selected a few to put in the question box for Monsignor Heinz.

Also, students began working on the unit 1 review.  It is due tomorrow in class at 8:50.  The Unit 1 Test will be Thursday.

Chapter 3

We began Chapter 3 today, discussing covenant and sacrifice.  The remainder of class was used for students the work on their tests from last week.  Students really struggled with the fill in the blank section, so I allowed students to fix their answers using their textbook.

Memorizing the Books of the New Testament

Today we began memorizing the books of the New Testament.  Students were shown three different YouTube videos that could be used to aide their memorization.  The videos are below.  There will be a practice quiz on Monday and the real quiz on Tuesday.

Reciting Prayer to St. Michael

Students recited the Prayer to St. Michael in class today.  Each student came up in front of the class and recited the prayer.  Every student completed this task.  We will be saying the prayer at the end of every mass.  There is no homework.

God's Presence

We went through pages 10-11 in our text.  Students then wrote down when they sense God in their lives, in others, in nature, and in current events.  The remaining time was used to continue practicing St. Michael's Prayer.  Some time next week students will be expected to recite the prayer.

St. Michael's Prayer

We went through pages 8 and 9 in our textbook.  We also read Genesis Chapter 1.  Finally, we practiced the Prayer to St. Michael which we will be saying at mass.  I was impressed by how quickly a number of students memorized the prayer.  Below is the prayer:


Prayer to St. Michael

St. Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil;
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray and do thou,
O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God.
Thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who
Wander through the World for the ruin of souls.

Creation

We went over middle school expectations.  Students are asked to bring the pink sheet back to school tomorrow, signed by both the parent and student.  Students also received their religion textbooks.  Finally, we went through the first couple pages and discussed creation.
